We’re growing fast and have recently added several really talented folks to our team. You will see a lot happening with OwnAShop™ over the coming year!

To apply, please email support@ownashop.com with “Mobile OwnAShop™ Tester” in the subject.

In the email, please tell us about yourself and what you would like to accomplish with Mobile OwnAShop™. Do include the following information and email us:
==========================
Your OwnAShop™ Username:
Type of mobile phone you are using:
Are you more of a Shopper or a Retailer?:
==========================

This will make it easier for us to see if you’re a good fit for this beta. We will of course provide all beta testers with the tester documentation, but if you have other questions, please let us know.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Why the sudden surge in online shopping and buying?

20 May

Good question! I wonder that myself too. Ecommerce has been around for 17 years, in many different variations, in the end – it’s about making a sale.

But recent years saw a dramatic increase in online shopping activities. Mainly thanks to blogshops and buying sprees.

However, there must be some reasonable explanations to such a surge and it kept on going… and here’s what I think: –

WE ARE CONNECTED – According to IDA stats in 2009, up to 81% household are connected to the internet! Which means the very moment you come home, you will be firing up your laptop, iPad and iPhone and do your facebook thingy again! And with the NBN coming soon… wow! We might hit 99%!

WE ARE REALLY CONNECTED – Let’s face it, when everyone is going for iPhone, Windows Mobile, Android, Blackberry phones… it is only smart to go with a SMARTPHONE! And smartphones are really making you surf net smarter, get connected socially smarter and even manage your online business smarter!!! And thanks to the 3 Telcos for selling iPad direct… we are going to see an explosion of the very connected next generation!

So bottom-line is, you are connected in the office, on the road, at home, and even while you are overseas! So think about it for a moment, you literally spend 50% of your awake time looking at your phone or computer, you will surely get attracted by some promotion and ended up shopping online.

Still in denial? Don’t let me catch you whipping out that iPhone while you are in the toilet! LOL~

REPENT! Like it or not, online shopping is only getting bigger thanks to connectivity!

Why people like myself hate shopping malls and love OwnAShop™?

20 May

Maybe my age has caught up with me… but here are my list of reasons why I simply hate Singapore shopping malls: –

CROWDED!
It is crazy I know! Look at Tampines those 3 malls, it is practically a nightmare to go there for a relax TGIF or weekend! I heard NEX is worst. If you take a public transport, be prepared. If you drive, good luck!  Huh? There are those malls that are pretty empty?? Yeah… 1/3 spaces available for rent you meant? Will you go there? I know it is a love hate situation. That’s why I still like Takashimaya…

REPLICATES!
I really hate this. Heard about a new shopping mall… got excited, went there, packed with others to learn that 80% of the stores are the repeats of the previous mall! What’s wrong with that? That’s is so wrong! I go to shopping malls for variety and not for convenience reasons… so give me 80% unique stores or I will stop coming to your malls!

INFLATED PRICING!
This is one thing I cannot believe it. S$15 for a bowl of prawn noodle? S$79 for a top?!? Did you realise that one trip to a shopping mall for a movie for 2 and just window shopping will easily cost S$100/trip? Imagine how many things you can buy online at the comfort of your home with S$100? LOL~

There are so many advantages doing shopping online! I can easily window shopping, browse hundreds of not thousands of products! Narrow down what attracts me, placed order and save money! It’s good for the retailers and good for consumers! No wonder more and more buys online!

In fact, if you are a retailer, you should invest in having an online shop front whereby your customers could do their homework first before going down to your physical shop front to try out before buying!

I still go to my favourite malls, not that frequent since it is more logical and economical to buy online nowadays! It’s a no brainer.

Online selling is BIG!

20 May

That’s not true! Someone once told me…

My reply: –

More shopping online, says MasterCard – channelnewsasia.com, 10 Jan 2011

Nearly 2 in 3 Singaporeans shop online -The Straits Times, 10 Jan 2011

Big surge in click, shop & buy – asiaone.com, 23 Sep 2010

1 in 3 youths shop online – The Straits Times, 8 Sep 2010

Surge in online shopping. Internet-savvy shoppers spend $690m online, 15 times more than in 1999 – The Straits Times, 30 Nov 2010

When  I asked around, young working adults accounted the most savvy online buyers! There are reasons to why people buy online, you just have to look deeper to realise! Forget about those statistics, use your common sense and gut feel….

And if you are already doing online selling and still not selling well, perhaps you are not doing the correct things?  Smile
